Artist Statement – Cascade Peak from the Sky

In Cascade Peak from the Sky, I capture the striking presence of Mt. Adams bathed in the dramatic hues of sunset—reds, blues, and yellows igniting both sky and peak. Billows of clouds drift in the foreground, reflecting the same luminous colors, creating a sense of harmony between earth and sky.

The volcanic mountains of the West Coast have a unique presence, standing apart from traditional mountain landscapes. Their isolated grandeur, shaped by fire and time, speaks to both power and stillness—an interplay that I find deeply compelling. Through this painting, I explore that contrast, embracing both the dynamic energy of the setting sun and the quiet, enduring strength of the mountain itself.
